Urban Jungle DJ Contest
Rules for Participants
Monkey Business Soundsystem vzw presents the Urban Jungle DJ Contest: a talent development trajectory for young DJs who want to gain stage experience in a professional yet accessible setting. Ready to show your skills to a live crowd and an expert jury? Read all the rules below and sign up!
Who Can Participate?
You are between 16 and 30 years old.
No experience required: the contest is open to both beginners and more experienced DJs.
Special attention goes to young talents who have little to no stage experience yet.
DJs from Genk and the rest of Limburg are especially encouraged to take part.
Breakbeat related genres are encouraged as this is the genre played by our crew (but is not mandatory).

From all submissions, the organization selects 8 participants who will be invited to the contest.
Selection is made by the organization based on the submitted entry.
You can register until 15/12/2026.

Contest Format
Date & location: the contest takes place on 09/01/2027 at Garage 26 (Europalaan 26, 3600 Genk) and is free to attend.
Playtime: each participant gets approximately 40 minutes of playtime.
Judging: the winner is determined through a combination of audience voting and a professional jury, with the jury's vote being decisive.
Every participant receives feedback from the jury afterwards.
The Prize: Moving Up to Club 26
The winner of the contest gets the chance to perform about a month later (06/02/2027) at the final event in Club 26 (the bigger hall next to the youth centre), alongside the DJs of Monkey Business Soundsystem.
This final event targets a wider audience and offers the winner extra visibility and a more professional context.
Theme: Urban Jungle
The whole evening is built around the Urban Jungle theme, blending urban and natural elements: plant walls, decoration, projections, lighting and smoke effects create an immersive atmosphere.
